Yogen Früz On Top Of The World

Yogen Früz at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa!

Yogen Früz recently jumped at the unique opportunity to support the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation (MSHF) as they prepared to ascend to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.

On July 11th, 2011, armed with flag in hand, we took this once-in-a-lifetime climb as our chance to scout for our very first Yogen Früz location in Africa. Drawing perplexed looks from our fellow team members and guides, details of the new store were worked out along the three-day journey to the summit. Customers will be encouraged to pick their own fruits and toppings from the native and unique vegetation that grows in abundance on Mount Kilimanjaro’s slopes. Since there are no roads, complimentary quadrupedal transportation (ü-mule for short) will be made available free of charge. Unfortunately, because this new location is many, many, miles from the nearest bank, we except exact change only. No debit, credit or bartering. Sorry!

Hope to see ü on top!

All fun aside, the proceeds of the MSHF’s Climb to Conquer goes towards helping adolescents and children struggling with mental illness by raising money for the Mental Health Program and increasing public awareness. We are proud to help the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation grow their new wing for the stigma of mental health by providing our youth with the understanding, care and treatment they need to live normal, healthy lives.

Yogen Früz named only frozen yogurt in Brazil

Yogen Fruz only frozen yogurt in Brazil

The popularity of Frozen Yogurt has exploded in Brazil resulting in new yogurt companies and franchises sprouting up frequently. This recent surge in demand triggered the Brazilian Proteste Consumers Association (Brazil’s equivalent to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency) to laboratory test samples of “frozen yogurt” from each of the eight main players (Yogen Früz, Yogolove, Yoggi, Yogoberry, Yofoira, Tutti Frutti, Bendita Fruta and Yogofresh) in the market. These samples were analyzed to determine if they met the bacterial, fat and sugar content required to be labeled yogurt by the Ministry of Agriculture Brazil and the Standard Health Agency in the UK.

The bacterial culture added to milk is the most vital component in making yogurt. Every gram of yogurt requires a minimum of 10 000 000* viable bacteria to be labeled as such. However, the Proteste Consumers Association was surprised to find that out of the eight samples of frozen yogurt that they took, all but one came close to meeting this minimum. From Bendita Fruta’s 110/g* to Yoforia’s 280 000/g*, none of the samples came remotely near Yogen Früz’s 94,000,000/g*.

Comparison Chart - English

No, that’s not a typo; Yogen Früz’s soft-serve yogurt contains almost 336 times the good bacteria as the next leading company’s product, surpassing the industry minimum by 940%. While we’re happy with the result of this test, we would love to see other countries around the world follow Brazil’s initiative to uphold product standards. Consumers should be aware if they’re eating healthy and delicious yogurt, or something that could be more accurately described as yogurt infused ice cream.

Did you know?

Yogurt. How is it made?

Yogurt is a product that is made from milk that has been fermented using naturally occurring good bacteria called “yogurt cultures”. The lactose in milk goes through fermentation by the yogurt cultures to produce lactic acid, which when combined with the protein found in milk gives yogurt its signature texture and flavour. Typically cow milk is used to make yogurt, however milk from water buffalo, goats, sheep, and even yaks and camels is also used in other parts of the world. And because yogurt is made from milk, it is nutritionally rich in calcium, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, riboflavin, and protein which all are essential to keep your body healthy and strong.
